Choosing a name for your blue tongue skink before you know its gender
If you have got a young blue tongue skink and don’t know it’s gender, you can pick a unisex name, and then switch to a different name. Some owners decide to pick a name that is unisex, and then change it up a little to match the gender and personality.
You should be able to start noticing sexual characteristics at the age of 5-8 months, by finding seminal plugs or noticing hemipenes (if it’s a male). With females, it’s either lack of these characteristics, or a need to perform an X-Ray/ultrasound for fully mature females (over 24 months old). Breeding behaviors can also help reveal the gender.
